In the fall of 2022, on the campus of Mt. Bethel Christian Academy, God sparked a creative fire in a small Upper School classroom based in the Meadows House. It began with just two classes -
Digital Media Production I and
Digital Media Production II - but what grew from those humble beginnings was something greater than anyone could have imagined.
With every frame captured and every story told, student's weren't just learning film techniques, they were learning to shine the light of Christ through the lens of creativity.
Just three years later, what began as a spark has become the vibrant and thriving Film Academy, serving students from 6th - 12th grade. Rooted in excellence and grounded in faith, the Academy equips students not only with professional-level filmmaking skills, but with the clarity and courage to use those gifts to honor God and imact culture.
For Upper School students, the Film Academy offers a powerful, multi-level curriculum:
DMP1: Discovering the fundamentals of storytelling and film
DMP2: Developing narrative strength and technical skill
DMP3: Producing thematic, message-driven projects
DMP4 Honors: Crafting cinematic work with excellence and intention
DMP5 Honors: Building portfolios for college, festivals, and future careers - all rooted in truth and purpose
Importantly, participation in the Film Academy counts as a fine arts credit towards graduation, giving students a meaningful and creative way to fulfill academic requirements while pursuing their passion.
Our students have been blessed with extraordinary opportunities: touring Trilith Studios, connecting with professionals at the Georgia Film Academy, and learning firsthand from faith-based film industry experts who visit MBCA to inspire and equip our student filmmakers.
Each year, the Film Academy proudly hosts the
Eagle Wings Film Festival, a nationwide celebration of student creativity. Students submit original projects in four powerful categories:
- Short Films
- Screenplays
- PSAs/Commercials
- Music Videos
This festival is more than an event; it's a platform where students use their talents to speak truth, share hope, and glorify God. Winners are honored with the prestigious Birdy trophies, representing not only artistic excellence but also the pursuit of purpose through film.
At MBCA, the Film Academy isn't just an elective, it's a mission field for media arts. It's where students learn to tell stories that matter, influence culture for Christ, and walk boldly into the creative callings God has placed in their lives. This is more than just film. This is a calling.
And this is just the beginning. At the Film Academy, we stand on the eternal word of God in Ephesians 3:20. Students are challenged to dream, create, and inspire for an audience of one: the Almighty God.
