Faculty Fellows

The Desire to Become a Christian Educator

The goal of the MBCA Fellowship is to provide an immersive Christian school experience for young professionals desiring to become Christian educators. This 10-month paid internship allows three to four potential Christ-centered individuals the opportunity to develop professionally, educationally, and spiritually while serving the MBCA community.

Those selected for the MBCA Fellowship are referred to as Fellows.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or pending degree completion is required
A background in education is not required, though candidates should demonstrate a passion for learning and personal growth
Coaching or serving as a faculty sponsor during three co-curricular seasons
Participating and helping in one mission trip and/or long term service opportunity
Participating in Professional Development through reading assignments, seminars, and one-on-one interactions

The MBCA Fellows Program is specifically designed for recent college graduates and/or young professionals who have the desire and/or interest to teach. The Program provides an immersive Christian school experience. Fellows are provided guidance, training, and experience in teaching, administrative duties, and are treated as colleagues within their departments as they teach in real-life classroom settings. Within the scope of the program, the Fellow collaborates with a mentor teacher in the planning and execution of lessons.Over the course of the year, in a scaffolded approach, the Fellow will assume increasing teaching responsibilities under the mentor teacher’s guidance and direction. In one academic year Fellows receive guidance and opportunities to develop teaching skills, coaching skills, pedagogical skills, and leadership experience.

Fellows participate in regular professional development and support the community in a variety of ways inside and outside the classroom to fully engage as members of the MBCA community, learning about a variety of school experiences. Upon completion of the program, MBCA seeks to support Fellows in finding full-time placement in faculty positions at MBCA or other schools.

The Faculty Fellowship is a ten-month paid internship. This option requires coaching responsibilities for the faculty fellow during three seasons of co-curricular activities or significant co-curricular involvement in the arts. A salary of $30,000 is paid over 12 months, along with the option to be covered under the school’s benefits program (health, dental, life, long-term disability, and retirement).

Inside the Classroom

Each Fellow is paired with a seasoned or master teacher. The role of the master teacher is to give in-depth knowledge and guidance regarding teaching. Fellows will start the year by observing their master teacher and other teachers across MBCA. This observation includes, but is not limited to, the classroom, lesson planning, grading, and parent/teacher communication. Master teachers are to be readily available to provide advice, feedback, and encouragement. Eventually, the Fellow will start teaching at least one section full-time with the master teacher observing. Fellows in the Upper School generally assume responsibility for teaching at least two classes after the period of observing the master teacher.
Outside the Classroom

Under the guidance of faculty coaches and sponsors, Fellows coach and mentor students in our co-curricular programs including, but not limited to athletics, arts, and service. Fellows will attend school retreats and/or class trips. Fellows will assist in leading one of the Upper School mission trips and/or long term service projects.
Professional Development/Pedagogical Development

The master teacher will provide regular instructional coaching; the MBCA Fellows will attend seminars and meetings on teaching and learning while completing reading assignments and projects designed for skill. The seminars and meetings are designed to provide a place for discussion of pedagogical principles and practical application. Fellows will participate in all faculty meetings and professional development opportunities planned on campus.
